美國總統特朗普22日表示，美國和伊朗官員當天在紐約會談三小時，形容會談非常順利及富有成效。特朗普當天在第81屆聯合國大會上講話表示，不排除美伊在11月美國國會中期選舉後達成結束衝突協議的可能性。

美國總統特朗普22日出席第81屆聯合國大會期間，會見烏克蘭總統澤連斯基，特朗普向在場媒體表示，美國和伊朗官員當天曾在紐約會談三小時，「在一個小時前就結束了」，形容會談非常順利及富有成效，不久後再舉行，惟特朗普未有雙方會談內容和下次會談時間。

特朗普揚言，伊朗要麼走向毀滅，要麼走向輝煌而成為一個偉大的國家。據報，美總統特使威特科夫（Steve Witkoff）和特朗普的女婿庫什納（Jared Kushner）參加該次會談，而威特科夫在會談後表示「感覺很好」。

第81屆聯合國大會一般性辯論22日在紐約聯合國總部開幕，特朗普在講話中指責伊朗贊助恐怖主義，指「五十一年來，伊朗一直以流血和大規模屠殺統治」，強調絕不會讓伊朗擁有核武，形容伊朗在「史詩狂怒行動」後，經濟和武器不復存在，剩下只有通貨膨脹。特朗普呼籲所有國家與美方一道，對伊朗實施全面的經濟孤立，直至伊朗停止襲擊商船、放棄核野心並停止支持恐怖主義。

特朗普在講話中亦談及對伊朗使用核武，指他面臨一個重大決定，「究竟是與伊朗達成協議，還是迅速消滅伊朗」，「讓他們再也沒有機會殺戮和摧毀人民和國家？還是將他們推入地獄，讓他們沒有生存的希望，也讓他們的子孫後代失去繁榮的希望？」，他不排除美伊在11月美國國會中期選舉後達成結束衝突協議的可能性
